Report on the workshop “Researching Mountains in Horizon 2020” / "Raziskovanje gora v Obzorju 2020" on 10 May 2016 by Mateja Breg Valjavec (Anton Melik Geographical Institute, Research Centre of Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts)
The event has been organised by Anton Melik Geographical Institute of the Research Centre of Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts and financially supported by the CH-AT alliance. The event took place at the Prešernova hall, Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Novi trg 4 Ljubljana, Slovenia. Over 30 people attended the workshop.
The workshop focused on the different Slovenian mountain regions (Alps and Dinaric Alps/Balkan) and their main research issues. The main aim was to connect Slovene mountain researchers, get to know each other’s research and to include them in further European networking. The participants shared experiences from different scientific disciplines (geography, forestry, agriculture, geology, biology, archaeology, social sciences etc.). The workshop offered the opportunity to discuss about past achievements, to set new goals, to establish new partnerships and suggest how to share the ideas with international mountain societies, like the CH-AT alliance. It has been pointed out that Slovenian mountain researchers have a very weak scientific network which should be improved in the near future by fostering interdisciplinary projects.
