In 2013, the Alliance’s activities focused on the organization of the CH-AT Mountain Days (11-13 June 2013, Mittersill, Austria). The event represented a major mid-term target and instrument to enhance the existing mountain research community and to capitalize on existing resources and networks. The Mittersill Final Statement ( pdf download) is a key product in which Swiss and Austrian mountain researchers define research priorities within the frame of the Alliance.
The Mountain Days 2013 had a visible impact on the European Forum Alpbach 2013. On occasion of the Working Group on ’The Potential of the Alps: Focus Sustainable Use of Resources’ organized by the Austrian Ministry for Science and Research, a Letter of Intent on 'The Enhancement of Multilateral Research Cooperation in Sustainable Use of Resources in Mountain Areas' was signed by four Alpine countries.
Both events were crucial to the publication of the Earth System Science Call 2013 of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, which promotes interdisciplinary research in mountain regions and explicitly refers to the MoU of the CH-AT Alliance. Out of the 20 projects, 14 have a Swiss-Austrian cooperation. Klick here for more information on these projects.
